Eco Friendly Pumps

Salamander-ESP-75-PUMPPumping your water supply to taps and showers you would naturally think uses more water well it can do but if used the correct way can be a water saver also.

The problem with water saving devices is that most will not work on a low pressure water system efficiently, flow restrictors and limiters that are used in water saving taps have far smaller bore holes in them rendering the pretty useless as the water flow is far too slow.

If you pressurize your water system with a pump like the Salamander ESP 75 Negative head twin pump which is capable of boosting pressure to a whole house water system then the flow will not be increased above what the limit of the flow restrictor is capable of but the pressure would be increased.

This on taps would give an aerated effect and on showers would give a high pressure invigorating shower without wasting water.

Make sure that when you purchase any water saving device that you have the minimum pressure to operate them correctly, this is usually about 1.0bar a standard gravity fed water system without a pump normally generates about 0.1 bar.

Part G Regulations delayed.

What a waste of energy

The government yet again wastes time money and energy in a disorganised fashion, the amendment to the 2000 building regulations that were due to be in force on the 1st October 2009 have now been delayed. Apparently an EU member is kicking up a fuss with the new regulations being a barrier to trade, whilst we all sit and wait for the red tape to be cleared the planet suffers, we spend our valuable human resources working on this as a new development, companies in the UK invest in getting ready for the October 1st deadline training staff, printing information, testing products we can go on and on about wasted resources.

Who is responsible well I am not going to waste any more energy finding out :)

Flow Restrictors

Flow RestrictorFlow restrictors are an easy way to save water, there are several different types available depending on the equipment they are to be used with have launched some new very well priced products on ther website that are designed to fit all types of bathroom taps, showers and kitchen taps.

Some flow restrictors (see left) aerate water flow giving a light fluffy flow whilst also slowing down the volume of consumed water, these types of flow limiters are to replace the flow straightener that is in the end of the mixer tap spout. Other flow restrictors are fitted prior to the device on the pipe work or in the baseFlow restrictors inline or tail of the tap itself (see right), with these flow restrictors they are designed to slip inside any plumbing fitting as they are the same diameter as 15mm copper tubing.

The flow limiters that Tapstore use for showers are designed to fit between the shower hose and the valve or wall outlet elbow (see left) they can also be fitted between the shower head and shower arm, with all the flow restrictors you get choices of what flow of water you want with the monobloc tap

shower_flow restrictor

you have a standard 6 liter per minute flow rate which is considered acceptable for basins

and  kitchen mixers, for the shower flow restrictors the choices are either 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 and 14 liters per minute and with the inline limiters you can choose between 1 – 6 liters per minute.

These devices start from £2.00 a pair for the pillar tap flow restrictors, £3.00 for the 6 liter monobloc basin and sink mixers, and £4.49 for the shower flow restrictors.

Part G – Water Safety

Be Safe!

Part G regulations that come out on the first of october 2009 state that baths in all new homes must be fitted with a protective device to ensure that the temperature from the outlet does not exceed 48 degrees. This has been bought into effect because every year aroung 20 people die and nearly 600 are injured from the excessively hot water temperatures with children and the elderly being more at risk.
